DIRECTIVE 2011/65/EU

On January 3, 2013 the EC Directive 2002/95/EC on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment (RoHS) will become invalid. The recast of the Directive has been published in the Journal of the European Union on July 1, 2011. (DIRECTIVE 2011/65/EU).

Please review the Directive as to which of your products fall under the scope of this recast as significant changes to the then deprecated Directive 2002/95/EC and its scope are described therein.

We would also like to point your attention to one of the significant changes: Conformity with the recast of the Directive 2011/65/EU will have to be confirmed by detailed measurements according to Article 7 “Obligations of Manufacturers”. Please ensure that all obligations are being observed before affixing the CE marking on the product itself and issuing a Declaration of Conformity confirming compliance with the Directive. The CE marking shall be subject to the general principles set out
in Article 30 of Regulation (EC) No 765/2008.

We kindly ask you to review the recast of the RoHS Directive and work on measures to ensure compatibility of your products that are being placed on the market of the European Union on and after January 3, 2013. Please contact your testing laboratories and / or Notified Bodies for further information.
